LogicNets’ Voice-enabled Structured Reporting

Who Benefits from LogicNets Radiology Solutions?

The LogicNets platform lets healthcare organizations enforce quality and streamline processes at the most critical points in their workflow. The benefits extend to the full range of stakeholders in the radiology process.

Radiologists/Clinicians

As radiology departments contend with growing volume, they are looking for better ways to improve quality...

…without sacrificing efficiency. By integrating LogicNets into their workflow, radiologists see improved quality and streamlining for orders, procedures, and reports. At the point of order, appropriate use criteria and other guidelines are applied to avoid inappropriate procedures and improper scheduling or pre-authorizations. Intelligent safety checks reduce the risk of injury. Reporting is greatly streamlined, yet enhanced with smart validations, to reduce mistakes and error-prone manual calculations. Reporting also enables structured data collection to support the department’s commitment to research for continuing health initiatives.

Referring Physicians

Physicians often feel stymied by the complexity of ensuring appropriate and conclusive examinations.

LogicNets provides point-of-order automation for appropriate use criteria, as well as automated analysis of other relevant factors required to fulfill the criteria. By ensuring accurate and clear reporting to physicians, LogicNets also improves turnaround times. In fact, LogicNets solutions can provide referring physicians with direct access to decision support processes, potentially filling gaps in patient information by letting the physician access the system directly from their own device. Because LogicNets enforces standardized data collection, the system can generate and distribute reports directly to registries, supporting physician participation in Meaningful Use, PQRS programs, and other initiatives.

Patients

Patients want to know that the examinations and procedures they undergo are safe...

…and will likely be useful. More and more, patients also want access to the results as they build their own PHR. From a patient’s perspective, LogicNets operates behind the scenes. However, it is a critical component for ensuring appropriateness, safety, and quality. LogicNets also can involve the patient by directly collecting appropriate data through online forms, assessments and surveys. Finally, LogicNets securely distributes its reports or other CDS results to any number of destinations, including HIEs and PHR.

Registries & Research Organizations

Clinical outcomes-based research has long been hampered by the lack of structured and complete data sets...

…from participating radiology organizations. Simplifying and streamlining reporting forms and templates has usually come at the expense of data standardization and proper use of coding. LogicNets solves this dilemma by making standardized report data as easy to enter as using the traditional free-form text format. With LogicNets’ intelligent dynamic form-building and native speech recognition features, radiologists are presented with only relevant input fields. They can use simple spoken commands to navigate among questions and provide answers in any order without having to modify their individual workflow. LogicNets structured (or “synoptic”) reports also incorporate sophisticated clinical validation checks, can enforce completeness of responses so that all registry requirements are met, and can export reports in the required data format.

Healthcare IT Departments

Health IT departments are focused on controlling costs by leveraging existing systems...

…and consolidating disparate products into single multi-purpose platforms. LogicNets is a powerful and extensible software platform for delivering enterprise-wide decision support functionality fully integrated into the existing healthcare IT stack. LogicNets supports the IHE model and common interoperability standards so that its decision support functions can be accessed from the EMR, RIS, PACS, and other clinical systems without disrupting workflow. The HIT department can deliver on the most critical radiology initiatives – such as appropriate use criteria – and then leverage their investment to inexpensively address other decision support functions both within Radiology and across the healthcare enterprise.

Content Providers/Publishers

While content providers have succeeded in giving clinicians fast access to medical references...

…and information resources, it is clear that finding the relevant information, absorbing the essential guidance at the point of care, and general information overload are becoming serious problems. LogicNets provides publishers of clinical content an interactive and intelligent means of guiding users to relevant content and structuring the information visually and in dynamically optimized sequences so that it can be consumed more easily and effectively. Since LogicNets can contextually link decision steps in a process to traditional knowledge articles, the system provides publishers a new way to leverage their traditional content services and deliver powerful new interactive offerings to the market.

Vendors

Decision support is a highly specialized technology and most healthcare IT vendors realize...

…that while it is vital for their application workflow, it is not an area of core expertise. LogicNets is a design platform for rapidly creating and deploying sophisticated browser-accessible decision support applications which integrate seamlessly via web services and common healthcare interoperability standards. Vendors can use LogicNets to rapidly incorporate decision support functionality into their offerings. Thanks to LogicNets’ unique visual decision design interface, Vendors meet time-critical product release objectives using non-programming staff and directly leverage the expertise of their clinical domain experts.

Essential Radiology Use Cases

SMART REPORTING

LogicNets reporting is quick, easy and intuitive thanks to: 1) native voice-recognition, 2) intelligent integration with the EMR, DICOM viewer and modalities, and 3) the system’s ability to dynamically optimize and reconstruct the form interface as it is used. Reports can be pre-populated with patient information, image meta-data and measurements from the viewer, and radiation dose details. With every user input, the system intelligently re-identifies relevant outstanding data, recalculates summaries and conclusions, and performs critical clinical validations. LogicNets reports go beyond summarizing observations to actually automating calculations and scores, greatly reducing the time and error potential for each report. LogicNets supports the IHE profile for dynamically importing MRRT templates from external sources. These reports can be enhanced with LogicNet’s powerful visual editor. The system is perfect for building and managing reports with the necessary sophistication to support regulatory, research, and registry requirements. As regulation and research become greater factors in Radiology, LogicNets’ flexibility and power have become the key to standardizing report data while maintaining ease of use for the radiologist.

APPROPRIATE USE CRITERIA

In the US, CMS has mandated the use of decision support to ensure the appropriateness of radiology orders. LogicNets lets organizations deploy both CMS-approved guidelines and any additional protocols needed to prevent unnecessary or unsafe procedures at the point of order. The system integrates with the RIS and EMR systems to access factors already collected in the patient record and runs in the background to authorize or stop an order based on the relevant rule set. When information is absent or contradictory, LogicNets prompts the user for missing or more accurate information so that the appropriate use conclusion can be reached. Appropriate use determinations can also be run in stand-alone mode or integrated into LogicNets reporting conclusions.

SAFETY PROTOCOLS

LogicNets can integrate with modalities and RIS systems or be accessed in stand-alone mode to conduct rules-based safety checks prior to running exams. Modality technologists can react in real-time at the point of care to validate the safety of an exam for patients with special conditions or implants. Based on experience, each organization has developed unique protocols to ensure patient safety. The organization can easily create and manage these protocols in LogicNets’ unique visual design environment, generating and distributing interactive procedures throughout the network, accessible through any device.
